About the Association

Over 40 years of preserving history along the National Pike.

In 1980, five individuals with a shared passion for preserving mechanical history came together with a simple idea: create a place where antique equipment could be displayed, demonstrated, and celebrated. Bob Livingston, Dean Red, Linsey Gillis, Thomas Weaver, and Ed Neal contributed land and equipment to get things started on just five acres along historic Route 40, the National Pike, in Brownsville, Pennsylvania.

What began as a small gathering of like-minded enthusiasts has grown into one of the most respected antique equipment shows in the United States. Today, the National Pike Steam, Gas & Horse Association spans more than 100 acres and draws thousands of visitors each year.

The association is entirely volunteer-run. Our 750+ members support the organization year-round, and the show itself depends on dedicated volunteers who give their time each year to make it all happen, from planning and logistics to food service and facilities. If you'd like to get involved, we're always looking for more helping hands.

A Living Museum

Unlike a traditional museum where equipment sits behind glass, our shows are alive. Engines run. Tractors move. Dozers dig. Visitors of all ages can walk among the machines, talk to the owners, and watch history operate right in front of them.

The variety of equipment on display is remarkable, from small antique John Deere garden tractors to massive Caterpillar D9 dozers. If it's classic, antique, or historically significant and runs on steam, gas, diesel, or horse power, you'll likely find it here.

Our construction and excavation area is considered one of the largest historical construction displays in the United States. Visitors can watch vintage bulldozers, scrapers, cranes, and excavators operating side by side, just as they did decades ago on major construction projects across the country.

Beyond the equipment, the shows feature:

  • Live entertainment and demonstrations
  • Rope making and other heritage craft demonstrations
  • Nature and tractor-drawn rides
  • Open-air flea market
  • Food booths and craft vendors
  • Family-friendly activities for all ages

Whether you're a lifelong equipment enthusiast, a history buff, or just looking for a unique family outing, the show offers something for everyone.

The association is governed by an elected board of officers and directors. All positions are volunteer roles held by dedicated members of the community.

100+ Acres Along the National Pike

Our showgrounds are located at 222 Spring Road, Brownsville, PA 15417, just off historic U.S. Route 40, the National Pike. The grounds have grown from the original five-acre parcel to more than 100 acres, giving us room to host multiple display areas, vendor rows, entertainment stages, and the massive construction exhibit simultaneously.

Brownsville sits in Washington County in southwestern Pennsylvania, easily accessible from Pittsburgh and the surrounding tri-state area. Ample parking is available on site.
